Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle Announced

Capcom is bringing their classic beat ‘em up titles from arcade era into a bundle for all gaming platform.

Arcade games era were quite dominantly ruled by the beat ‘em up genre of titles and the ones released by developer/publisher Capcom were the ones that stood out in the crowd of other franchises.

To revive that nostalgia factor once again on modern day platform and consoles, they have hand-picked seven of their classic titles from the category and announced them to be released on September 18 for Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, pricing $19.99 only.

Two of the included games, Armored Warriors and Battle Circuit have never made it out of arcade and making their debut on modern consoles. This compilation comes with a gallery section featuring arts, sketches and other stuffs.

Options for joining local or online co-op are there and your friends can join in anytime they want. However, it seemed weird that another beat ’em up game from 90's, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs by the same publisher was missing from the collection.

The very first one from this anthology is mecha-themed brawler among its peers and gets more interesting when more than one person is playing. Following a century-long war in the year 2281, there is an invasion on neighboring planet Raia and a small group of army is deployed to halt consisting of 1st Lieutenant Jeff Perkins, 2nd Lt Sarah White, Captain Ray Turner and Major Glenn Reed.

Set on a futuristic time of 20XX, you take control of a bounty hunter with super-power from a group of five. Whoever you pick from Alien Green, Captain Silver, Cyber Blue, Pink Ostrich or Yellow Iris, you will get a different yet funky gameplay experience.

Each of them has varied move sets to perform on enemies to defeat them and clear all stage to reach their objective. The game even allows you to buy upgrades like new moves or extend the energy bar with the money you collect.

Titular protagonist of the game was the company’s original mascot and has made crossover appearance in other games of Capcom as well. In the year 2026, Captain Commando and his faithful companions Baby Head, Ginzu the Ninja and Mack the Knife fights against a group of super-powered criminals when Earth is threatened.

The cult-classic title which can be considered as a pioneer to many of its kind and many key characters from it have even appeared later the Street Fighter Alpha series, including some of the antagonists.

It follows a story of a former pro wrestler Mike Haggar, boyfriend of his daughter and a street brawler named Cody Travers and his friend Guy, who is also a Bushin warrior. Together they attempt to reduce crime rate in Metro City and eventually came in conflict with the notorious Mad Gear gang.

Before Blizzard Entertainment made orcs, wyverns and other mythical creatures look cool in their MMORPG franchise of Warcraft, there was this title. Just like a role-playing game of arcade, you experience leveling up your character, looting gold and scoring points for slaying enemies.

Expanded to 16 levels of gameplay, the game is set on a medieval world where you choose to play solo or as a band of up to three members from five playable characters, Cleric, Dwarf, Elf, Fighter and Wizard.

Another three player co-op game that is based on the Legend of King Arthur, allows you to play as himself or Lancelot and Perceval. Takes place in the medieval age, players can wield battle-axe, swords or even fight on horseback depending on whom you choose.

Armor and weapons can be upgraded by leveling up of your character though hunting enemies down and collect treasure items. Despite having limitations, the game is commonly considered as a spiritual successor of Golden Axe.

Last but not the least, a brawler game that featured two different stories; one for English and another one is for Japanese version. Three valiant warriors can take part into the fight at once among a roster of five.

The warriors originally belonged to Chinese heritage in Japanese release but in the World version, they have Mongolian origin and even their names are changed entirely. The heroes are sent off to fight evil overlords to free their people and will venture through nine stages.

These glorious side-scrolling beat ’em up titles are surely not to be missed for any fans or newcomers just for the sheer fun of it. Back in May, Capcom released an anthology series of twelve fan-favorite titles from one of their insanely popular franchise of Street Fighter to celebrate three decades of these fighting games as Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.

Also, Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 including all eight Mega Man X games is currently available for all platforms.
