Marvel’s Spider-Man Comics Inspirations
Bill Rosemann of Marvel Games talks about most inspiring comic-book moments from Spider-Man history.
Only a week passed since developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment released action-adventure game Marvel’s Spider-Man as a PlayStation 4-exclusive, fans and true believers have jumped into it like moth to fire.
The engaging gameplay mechanics of the title was what everyone was excited about from the beginning but now after it is finally released, everyone is also praising its story pacing as well, meaning the script-writing went pretty well.

Talking about how well everyone's favorite Wall-Crawler is doing through the new release, the game’s creators and people who collaborated with them decided to share their source of inspiration for the project and we couldn't resist sharing that with you guys.

AMAZING FANTASY (1962) #15
Starting at the very beginning point was the historical debut issue that encapsulates the origin of a hero created by writer Stan Lee (Thor, X-Men) and artist Steve Ditko (Hawk and Dove, Legion of Super-Heroes), even coming up with his famous motto of "With great power there must also come great responsibility".

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #1-#38
Eventually Web-Head finds his place on a brand-new monthly ongoing series for himself where Lee and Ditko had their legendary run for a while. The world of Peter Parker and Spider-Man colliding on a daily basis was the primary aspects of this run while an infamous rogue’s gallery slowly forms for him to tackle in his upcoming crime-fighting years.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (2000) #1
A new era begin with the re-imagining of the hero writer Brian Michael Bendis (Age of Ultron, Avengers Disassembled) and artist Mark Bagley (Hulk – Banner DOA, Venom – Lethal Protector), playing with the idea of retelling the classics to a new generation of readers and offered alternate tweaks at the familiar characters from the lore in Ultimate Spider-Man series. A lot of insights were taken from the series during the development of Marvel’s Spider-Man.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1999) #546
The original series of Spidey gets a fresh new take with "Brand New Day" era, courtesy of writer Dan Slott (She-Hulk, Silver Surfer) and his iconic take on the life of the Web-Slinger. This talented creator was responsible for some serious changes and development the entire world of Spider-Man has gone through.
Luckily for fans, he was one of the heads that offered his valuable perspective to build a foundation for the game’s story alongside his then editor Stephen Wacker and current Spider-Man series editor, Nick Lowe.

DARK REIGN: MISTER NEGATIVE (2009) #1
The character Martin Li, a.k.a. Mister Negative made his first appearance following the events of "One More Day", also created by Dan Slott. He grew as an ambitious antagonist, who in his villainous persona is dedicated to build his criminal empire and the other half is a generous person who runs a shelter at the F.E.A.S.T. center for less fortunate people.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1999) #659
Following the "Big Time" storyline by Slott, he came up with a brilliant idea of giving spider-powers to everyone of Manhattan including other super-heroes and villains as well. He takes on Sinister Six and teamed-up with Fantastic Four for an all-new adventure trip.
Thus, slowly culminating the concept of "Spider Island" saga and though not the same, New York comes under a threat from a deadly infection that Spidey should take care of.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1991) #661
Another fresh take we saw during the period of Christos Gage (Thunderbolts – Secret Invasion, World War Hulk – X-Men) serving as a writer on the series and he also joined on board during the development stage of the game to offer his ideas on the character and his relationship to the ones closed to him as well. His style of significantly blending action and humor in the monthly run was quite noticeable.

So, you can already see how there are a tons of concept placed from the comics even without maintaining a correlation with any continuation. Of course, every other incarnation of any Marvel character is a version from another different reality and executive creative director of Marvel Games, Bill Rosemann believes it allows more creative freedom for experimenting.
Which is why, Marvel’s Spider-Man is taking part in the upcoming major crossover-event "Spider-Geddon" with a group of Spider-Men from other realities.
