Back in December 2018, four physical copies of KH III game got leaked online months before its launch and even though Nomura pre-conceived a contingency plan for a situation like this to prevent spoilers, it was a great disappointment for the director.
The last mainline entry into the franchise was Kingdom Hearts II, which came out on 2005 for PlayStation 2 and the studio had the fans wait for another fourteen years for a true sequel featuring Sora and friends, which is a really long time to wait for.

If you think that was a long period of waiting then you may as well expect it be prolonged even more inn future for projects that Tetsuya Nomura will be working on, because his frustration as Kingdom Hearts series creator and director of KH3 about the situation is pretty obvious.
One of his solutions to avoid such leak ahead of time is to release the game in other regions first before eventually releasing them around the globe on a later date other than simultaneous worldwide release for the retail version at the very least.

When it comes to game development, Nomura is quite adamant on his control over the process and he even gave Disney a condition to let him include Toy Story during initial planning phase, otherwise not willing to make KH III at all.
Luckily for him, things worked nicely for him for the project but fans now fear that the highly anticipated, upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake for PlayStation 4 may not see a concurrent worldwide release or at least not for the physical version.

Once Kingdom Hearts III is released within the next few days, Nomura would be shifting his entire focus on FFVII project but would still be attached to KH3 and he has good reasons to do that if rumors of a Nintendo Switch port of the game being in works are correct.
Now, it would be hugely upsetting for fans of the Final Fantasy role-playing game series if they are being limited to enjoy his work digitally for a certain time but we don't see anything at this moment that could make him change his mind.
