Not afraid to change things up over time, developer/publisher Capcom could take their popular survival horror franchise Resident Evil to a fresh new location just like they did several different times in past for upcoming ambitious RE title.
An early report claimed that next mainline RE series entry will be an open-world game with the biggest budget in franchise history. According to that same source, Resident Evil 9 is likely to be set in a fictional rural town of Southeast Asia.
In response to a query on X (formerly Twitter), leaker AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem recently claims that Resident Evil 9 will reportedly move to a Southeast Asian setting, which is a fictional rural town, modeled after real-life Singapore.
It will be very different from what Capcom has explored before and in Resident Evil 6, they only included China as an Asian setting. Heading over to Singapore would be a great way for RE fans to interact with very different culture as well.

From mid-Western locale of Raccoon City in original Resident Evil trilogy to a Eastern European backdrop in Resident Evil: Village, fear has moved RE series to different corners of the world as it takes upcoming Resident Evil to a new one.
New cultural inspiration is always an interesting aspect of in Resident Evil universe even though it led to some arguable missteps in past. A Singapore-based setting would be great for RE series as they are not frequently explored in games.
Earlier in 2022, A Space for the Unbound portrayed the life of teenagers in Indonesia and stood out among many adventure games. RE9 may not be a similar experience, it can still showcase a culture that is often sidelined in video games.
Capcom can always revisit their old RE settings but fans would really love them to take the next game somewhere else after recent remakes. Moving over to Singapore is surprising but may be devs are exploring new avenues for RE series.
Whatever future Resident Evil series holds, heading to a different setting inspired by Singapore would really be an interesting choice. Many fans also believe that Chris Redfield will also return as a protagonist, instead of taking a backseat.
Resident Evil 9 has yet to be officially announced by Capcom in coming months and it shouldn't be too long before we get a first-look at it. Dusk Golem previously suggested that RE9 could get internally delayed for another RE title launch.
