Resident Evil 5 Steam Update May Be Teasing at Capcom's Next Remake |
Throughout its release year, 2023 survival horror game Resident Evil 4 Remake ended up selling over 6 million copies worldwide, incentivizing developer/publisher Capcom to work on more of their modern-day remake of classic old titles.
Fans were already speculating on Capcom's next Resident Evil Remake following RE4R launch in 2023. Without having to wait for long, a recent update to one of the older Resident Evil title on Steam may have hinted at their next project.
X (formerly Twitter) user PRE_Alarabiya claims that Resident Evil 5 is possibly upcoming remake in line, according to its listing on SteamDB. About few weeks ago, Steam page for RE5 has made some changes that lead to such assumptions.
Shortly ahead of Resident Evil 4 Remake: Gold Version launch, three updates were made to RE5 page on Steam. Firstly, they removed Resident Evil 5 name and base game from the package as they are recorded to change log at SteamDB.
SteamDB has marked recently made changes to original Resident Evil 5 listing page, shared on social media.

Resident Evil 5
• إزالة اللعبة… pic.twitter.com/bYZOuudQ4z
Renaming previous game to Resident Evil 5 (2009) is likely to help a potential remake stand out from original RE5 title. Capcom has yet to officially announce a remake of RE5 but latest update was enough to spark extensive rumor online.
These three updates came after nearly three years and Capcom only made software updates to RE5 during that period. These revisions were made by a real person and suddenly updating this old package is surely noteworthy for RE fans.
Capcom made similar changes to original Resident Evil 4 before announcing RE4 Remake earlier in 2022. They replaced classic RE4 title with Resident Evil 4 (2005) to make it different from RE4 remake, by labeling it only as Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 5 getting manually updated out of the blue after long is a telltale sign that Capcom is planning for an announcement soon. Given their trend of remaking other classic games, a RE5 remake could definitely be on their to do list.
