Launching simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5, 2024 third-person shooter Helldivers II from developer Arrowhead Game Studios and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment had a pretty good release day reception by its series fans.
At launch, sequel to Helldivers saw waves of players on PC platform but suffered heavily due to server issues. Regardless, concurrent player count for Helldivers 2 on Steam has now surpassed all other PlayStation games on PC combined.
According to latest SteamDB website report, Helldivers II has reached over 333,827 concurrent PC players on Steam this week. Peak player count of all other PlayStation PC games released on Steam combined is 300,359 claimed by stats.
SteamDB player count for Helldivers 2 is only part of the picture since it has cross-play between PC and PS5. There were at least a million players within days of its release and that number has likely increased this week on both platforms.
Most of previous PlayStation PC titles were ported long after their initial console release, unlike Helldivers II. While enjoying a massive number of players, Arrowhead's co-op shooter has faced issues like anti-cheat DRM and Battle Passes.
Helldivers II has sold nearly 1 million copies in three days after its release on PC and PlayStation 5 worldwide. Originally slated for a late 2023 release, sequel to 2015 original top-down shooter was delayed once before its eventual launch.
