After defeating Calamity Ganon (Breath of the Wild), dwellers of Hyrule begin to restore it to its former glory. Link and Princess Zelda goes to investigate a secret passage beneath Hyrule Castle in hopes to find some clues about the Gloom.
They find murals of a great war against the Demon King and witness a mummy awakening from slumber. It corrupts Link's right arm and destroy his Master Sword with a surge of Gloom before sending Hyrule Castle up into the sky and fall.
Explore through sprawling landscapes of Hyrule to discover new ways of traversal across land or skies. Learn to utilize Link's newfound abilities in creative and sometimes surprising ways as you let imagination run wild in different situation.

Tears of the Kingdom brings back open-world gameplay of BotW to explore the Depths and Sky Islands. Instead of runes, Link can use his new set of powers like Ascend, Autobuild, Fuse, Recall and Ultrahand to combat foes or make stuffs.
Players can pass through solid objects up above with Link's ability to Ascend or combine objects to weapon using Fuse. Recall reverses movement of inanimate objects and Ultrahand helps you attach things together to create useful stuffs.

As a follow-up to Breath of the Wild, players can expect a bigger sandbox, better dungeons and more enemy variety in 2023 sequel. Although exploration is a key gameplay element, dev team also focused heavily on its building machines.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom adopts lots of popular aspects of BotW while adding new ideas into the mix. TotK expands over basics of its predecessor with a unique plot and tons of improvements for longtime franchise fans.
