The Wolf Among Us 2 Delayed to 2024
Telltale Games has delayed The Wolf Among Us 2 release to 2024 for avoiding crunch and delivering a better product.
The Wolf Among Us 2 Delayed to 2024 |
Although announced back in 2017, upcoming episodic graphic adventure The Wolf Among Us 2 by developer/publisher Telltale Games was originally delayed for a year before studio was shut down and the project was in hiatus until 2019.
Months after Telltale Games was revived, development for The Wolf Among Us 2 was resumed by LCG Entertainment. A release window set for 2023 was revealed last year but unfortunately, TWAU sequel has been delayed again to 2024.
Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie recently revealed their main reason to delay The Wolf Among Us sequel was to avoid employee burnout. Also, they didn't want to ship an unfinished product to customer that is not ready yet and no good.
Ottilie further added that Telltale Games struggled a lot during COVID-19 pandemic after being re-established since their studio closure. When they re-announced TWAU2 that December, the game and studio was both in very early stages.
Dev team didn't use any previously-developed material and Telltale was under-staffed but they still announced it early to secure funding. As they were making progress, developers wanted to switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal 5 lately.
Although switching to UE5 requires redoing a lot of work already done in UE4, staffs believed it to be worth the effort. Following switch, they could either ship an unfinished game or just start doing crunch and it shuttered original Telltale.
Telltale Games made a statement regarding reasons to delay The Wolf Among Us 2 to next year on Twitter.

They simply don't want to crunch and if a half-assed game is delivered, people will tear them to shreds due to heavy expectations. Telltale wants to meet their anticipations and make the best game they could possibly make in these times.
While committed to deliver a sequel fans deserve, Telltale wants to protect the health of entire dev team. Ottilie admits of doing crunch in past and don't want to do it again as it's not fair and they don't want to burn people out long-term.
Newly established Telltale Games is trying their best to maintain a healthy work culture as they brings back Bigby and Fabletown gang. The Wolf Among Us sequel will pick up from where they left off in first TWAU series entry back in 2013.
The Wolf Among Us 2 will arrive for PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S through next year. Like its predecessor, it will have an episodic release but all content will be done before its premier.
