Although attempts of live-action movie adaptations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seemingly ended in last decade, recent video game releases like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge has met with positive fan-response.
A few months back, September 2022 issue of Toy World magazine revealed a brand-new TMNT game is in works for 2023 launch. A latest report suggests that it will be adapting 2020 storyline Last Ronin and inspired by God of War series.
In a recent interview, Paramount Global senior vice president for games Doug Rosen confirmed that upcoming The Last Ronin adaptation is a third-person action role-playing game, inspired by Sony's most recent God of War series entries.
It will be true to original story arc, which takes place in a dark future New York City, where only one turtle survives. Rosen didn't reveal which developer they are working with but their goal is to cerate a AAA-action title from original arc.
Last Ronin video game will be darker and more mature take than generally colorful depiction of Ninja Turtles in any media. Whereas, TMNT games often let you play as all four turtles and their allies, Last Ronin focuses on single-character.
However, he also pointed out that other characters may also become playable during flashback sequences, like its comic-book series. Last Ronin uses weapons of his fallen brothers and it may allow you to switch fighting style at any time.
Written by original creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, five issue miniseries The Last Ronin was published by IDW in 2020. Being hunted by the Foot Clan, one surviving turtle goes against grandson of Shredder to avenge his brothers.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is currently in early stage and is a few years away from release now. Paramount sees opportunities to make multiple TMNT games for both young and mature players with diverse approaches.
