CrossfireX to Shut Down in May 2023

Debuted as a console version of original shooter, 2022 free-to-play multiplayer game CrossfireX by South Korean developer Smilegate Entertainment and Remedy Entertainment was launched for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S a year ago.

Despite being world's biggest multiplayer shooter, Crossfire console version miserably failed to garner much love from Xbox players. In a new announcement, Remedy and Smilegate revealed their decision to fully shut it down after May.

According to official FAQ page, CrossfireX multiplayer servers will become inaccessible, starting May 18, 2023. Even players who own a copy will no longer be able to access its solo campaigns either and no new CFX content will be added.

Effective immediately, all sales for CFX on Xbox Store are halted and purchase made within last 14 days will be eligible for refund. Those who previously purchased it can still keep playing until server shuts down at May 18, 12:00 AM UTC.

Smilegate has decided to end support for the game because it was not where they needed it to be even after several content updates. However, shutting down its single-player campaigns for players is an unacceptable behavior by them.

CrossfireX was announced during Microsoft E3 2019 keynote with a planned launch window set for 2020 before getting delayed for a year. It received a mediocre reception at launch due to its gameplay issues and very bland story-telling.
