A brand-new trailer at The Game Awards 2022 officially confirms upcoming mecha-based action game Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon by developer From Software will serve as a soft-reboot for titular franchise and will release next year.
From Soft won over "Game of the Year" award for Elden Ring as they announced a series revival during TGA 2022. Despite success of Souls-like genre, studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki claims that Armored Core 6 won't be a Soulsborne game.
In an interview with IGN recently, Miyazaki talked about his game development career and how he started working at From Software. His first game was Armored Core: Last Raven and then he was assigned to direct Armored Core 4 (2006).
While talking to how Armored Core VI adapts to From Software's current action trend, Miyazaki clarified that they are not making a conscious effort to try and direct it to more Soulsborne-type gameplay but delving back to core AC aspects.
Miyazaki initially served as director of Armored Core 6 but has now stepped down from his role. He provided concept design to Masaru Yamamura, lead designer for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and newest director for AC6: Fires of Rubicon.
Seeking direction for new Armored Core game, Miyazaki revisited core concepts of iconic mech-battle series. He wanted to bring back core aspects like assembling and customizing for modern audience using every development resources.
Like any major From Software game, boss battles are the highlight of AC6 claims Yamamura in a separate statement. Both enemies and player mechs are quite capable of aggressive and violent attacks during scuffle, which is essential to AC.
Unlike previous series entries, Armored Core 6 will have more focus on single-player than large-scale multiplayer experience. However, players shouldn't expect an open-world game like Elden Ring either but fans will enjoy its core aspects.
Earlier this year, From Software's next Armored Core game was revealed by a survey along with few details and screenshots. A new game was teased by Miyazaki during an interview later and a Bandai Namco leak hinted at it furthermore.
Armored Core VI releasing after Elden Ring and not being heavily influenced by Souls-like genre is really good news for series fans. Going back to series "Souls" (pun intended) would be a great fan-service for all, offering unique experience.
