Not having a successful launch would be a major understatement for 2022 first-person shooter Overwatch 2 by developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment, which got hit by a DDoS attack on its release day and still having server queue issues.
Moreover, dev team had to temporarily remove both Bastion and Torbjörn due to a new server bug among lots of other problems. Blizzard has announced to compensate players with Double XP weekends and goodies to make up for troubles.
Apologizing to players for their precious lost time due to launch issues, Blizzard commits to run several double match XP weekends. While they work on stability updates, specific dates will be revealed soon at a later date throughout Season 1.
Blizzard also promises to giveaway an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper legendary skin and Health Pack weapon charm. Players logging in from October 25 to end of ongoing Season will get these in-game cosmetics to their collection for show-off.
Players who suffered during recent server outage can make great progress in upcoming double XP weekends and unlock more skins. However, match XP boosts may not pay you same amount as you normally get in daily and weekly challenges.
Overwatch 2 rocky launch was made worse by multiple DDoS attacks, which had a huge impact on its server reliability. Blizzard previously asked players to connect their Battle.net account via phone number but dropped it for getting backlash.
