Alongside reveal of upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC expansion and Edgerunners update release for 2020 open-world action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077, developer/publisher CD Projekt Red confirms shipping over 20 million copies.
Following recent premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series on Netflix, there has been a big surge of CP2077 players lately. Meanwhile, CD Projekt officially announces Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, trilogy of Witcher games and a new IP.
CD Projekt group strategy update has confirmed working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which is codenamed "Project Orion". It will be developed by a new CD Projekt studio in North America and show full potential of Cyberpunk universe.
After releasing Phantom Liberty DLC next year, CDPR devs will begin working on their ambitious Project Orion. To meet its grand scale, new CD Projekt Red North America studio will be formed with team in Boston and Vancouver together.
A brand-new, original IP codenamed "Project Hadar" has been conceived last year and currently in concept phase, handled by a small team. It will head over to a new direction, away from both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, says CDPR.
Earlier this year, CD Projekt announced a new Witcher game as fourth mainline entry that starts a brand-new trilogy. All three games are being planned to be launched within a six-year window after the first one in a new saga gets released.
Moreover, an innovative take on The Witcher universe is getting developed by American studio The Molasses Flood. They previously worked on Drake Hollow and The Flame in the Flood titles before CD Projekt Red acquired them last year.
Internally known as codename "Project Sirius", it will be an unforgettable story for old and new Witcher franchise fans. Although set within The Witcher universe, it will be quite different from past release with single-player and multiplayer.
Another "full fledged" Witcher game is also in works with a third-party studio ran by ex-Witcher veterans called "Canis Majoris". This one is a story-driven, single-player open-world RPG, which is set in Witcher universe with Unreal Engine 5.
CD Projekt Red intends to adapt a franchise "flywheel" concept that develops an ecosystem for mutually reinforcing products across various mediums or platforms and is open to collaboration with other external creative teams like Netflix.
