MultiVersus Becomes Best-Selling Game of July 2022 in US

Amidst an ongoing Open Beta test program back in July, free-to-play crossover platform fighting game MultiVersus by developer Player First Games becomes biggest Steam game release for its publisher Warner Bros. on PC platform to date.

Earlier this week, MultiVersus Season 1 was launched across major platforms and recent report claims that WB Games' platform fighter already becomes second best-selling game in July 2022 for U.S. during its Open Beta period last month.

MultiVersus has effectively dethroned both Elden Ring and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in U.S. software sales chart. Although free-to-play, its Founder's Pack bundles were available on digital store, priced from $39.99 to $99.99 only.

According to latest NPD Group report, MultiVersus was best-selling video game of July in entire U.S. market based on dollar sales. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has reached at No. 4 as newest entry in top 20 games and Digimon Survive is at No. 8.

When it comes to console sales, PlayStation 5 had highest dollar sales among others this July as well as through 2022. However, Nintendo Switch topped the chart in terms of unit sales for last month and entirety of 2022 across U.S. market.

Meanwhile, consumer spending on accessories, contents and hardware has dropped 9% in July compared to $4.18 billion last year. U.S.-based market research firm NPD Group also revealed that to date spending has declined a steep 10%.

Despite losing its monthly rank in July, Elden Ring still remains best-selling game of 2022 so far, ahead of Call of Duty: Vanguard. Popular top-sellers like Horizon Forbidden West and Pokémon Legends: Arceus are still on top 10 for this year.

MultiVersus Season 1 went live this week shortly after Black Adam and Stripe were accidentally teased via an advert on Xbox dashboard. Alongside several new characters, dev team promises to add Arcade mode, new Battle Pass and more.
