Marvel's Spider-Man PC Files Hints at Multiplayer Mode |
Just a day after PC release, remastered version of 2018 action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man by developer Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software had second biggest release on Steam for PlayStation game behind God of War (2018).
Other than packing all three story expansions and unique PC features, Spider-Man: Remastered has many secrets to unveil. In a latest datamining effort, PC port of Marvel's Spider-Man reveals a planned co-op mode cut from its final version.
According to modder and Twitter user DniweTamp, newfound files within Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered hints at a co-op mode. There are executable references to multiplayer game mode in-game that are not accessible now in any way.
Insomniac was planning for a second player to take control of Miles Morales, equipped with his unique abilities in multiplayer mode. Dev team wanted to include a PvP mode and "Free For All" game type, which would have been a PvE mode.
Twitter user DniweTamp has shared game files found within PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered.

PC version code has phrases like "Peter Parker is the Superior Spider-Man!" and "Miles Morales is the Superior Spider-Man!" as well as "player 1", "player 2" with red and blue teams, probably hinting at two players facing against each other.
Multiplayer mode may have been planned as a separate mode than single-player campaign, as hinted by in-game files. It wouldn't have been available since the very beginning and you either have to unlock it later or download it eventually.
These in-game files could also suggest that Insomniac Games is developing a multiplayer mode for upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which will seemingly feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters in recent sequel.
Marvel's Spider-Man having a co-operative mode doesn't make a lot of sense since Miles don't become a superhero until his spin-off game. About a sequel, Insomniac claims Spider-Man 2 is their most epic single-player experience till date.
