A complete reimagining of 1992 horror classic Alone in the Dark has been teased by an industry insider earlier this week, who has a reputation for leaking news regarding major horror-related IPs correctly on social media for past few years.
After being leaked by an accidental listing on Belgian retail site Smartoys earlier, a modern-day remake of 1992 seminal survivor horror game Alone in the Dark has been announced for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series X/S.
A new trailer for Alone in the Dark Remake was revealed during THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2022 event.
Alone in the Dark by developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic follows the story of Derceto Manor as original protagonists Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood returns as playable characters, exploring many nightmarish horrors.
When her uncle has goes missing, Emily enlists help from private investigator Edward and they encounter dreaded monsters. While uncovering an ominous plot, these two solves challenging puzzles and experiences Southern gothic horror.
A short, playable teaser titled "Grace in the Dark" featuring a standalone story will also become available at Gamescom 2022 event. It will serve as a prologue to main game starring Grace from second Alone in the Dark game by Infogrames.
Pieces and THQ didn't confirm whether this teaser is exclusive to Gamescom or will be released later for everyone to play. Since, Grace in the Dark is based on a separate plot from Alone in the Dark Remake, it may get a full release after all.
Swedish studio Pieces Interactive hired writer Mikael Hedberg, who was previously credited for Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA. Latest remake features an original story with returning characters, Lovecraftian themes and lots more.
Alone in the Dark Remake has been under development since 2019 and is currently in the alpha phase. THQ Nordic didn't reveal any official launch window or a definitive release date yet but it may eventually come out sometime next year.
