Rockstar Games reportedly wanted to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S but those plans were shelved lately.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Upgrade Reportedly Cancelled |
When it comes to launching new versions of previously released games on a number of console generations, developer/publisher Rockstar Games made quite a history with 2013 crime action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto V till date.
However, they paid no attention to fan-favorite franchise like Red Dead Redemption despite its impressive sales numbers. Although a next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 was being worked on, it has reportedly been cancelled.
An early report claimed that Rockstar will release PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead 2 shortly. Rockstar insider Tez2 suggests that an enhanced version of Rockstar Editor and new-gen upgrades for RDR2 was shelved.
Tez2 has reported earlier this week on Rockstar Games apparently cancelling planned remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption following a disastrous launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition in 2021.
Twitter user @videotech_ shared a screenshot of Tez2 commenting on Red Dead Redemption 2 new-gen upgrade.
Per Tez2, it doesn't look like Rockstar Games wants to ship out a new enhanced version of #RedDeadRedemption2 for next-gen consoles anytime soon.

A new-gen update for RDR2 will make it playable at higher frame rates and native 4K resolution on PS5 and Series X/S. Nevertheless, you can still run last-gen versions on current systems using backwards compatibility feature on consoles.
Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped over 44 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling video games of all-time. Rockstar Games might revisit these plans at a later date as they are currently working on upcoming Grand Theft Auto title.
