On its 10th anniversary earlier, 2012 hack-and-slash game Lollipop Chainsaw was celebrated by game director Goichi Suda AKA Suda51 and filmmaker/writer James Gunn, as they shared their memories of working together on social media.
Later that week, a potential remaster, remake or sequel was hinted by Yoshimi Yasuda, former CEO of Kadokawa Games. In a surprise announcement today, Yasuda revealed to be working on a Lollipop Chainsaw Remake at Dragami Games.
Yasuda and a number of original development staff has left Kadokawa to form Dragami Games and they purchased Lollipop Chainsaw intellectual property along with a few other to work on a remake, changing a few aspects of 2012 original.
For instance, Yasuda and his team are adapting a more realistic approach to graphics-style due to power of new-gen hardware. Dragami Games even contacted publisher Warner Bros. shortly after acquiring rights and received their support.
However, not all of original 15 soundtracks will return because of licensing difficulties and new music will be introduced instead. Gunn and Suda51 may not be a part of the project since there was no mention of their involvement by Yasuda.
Lollipop Chainsaw debuted as a console-exclusive for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 without being re-released for later systems. It's not listed among PlayStation Plus lineup of streamable games, nor is it backwards compatible on Xbox console.
