Only hours after being leaked at PlayStation Direct, developer Naughty Dog officially announced a complete remake of 2013 action-adventure game, titled The Last of Us Part I for PlayStation 5 consoles during Summer Game Fest 2022 event.
Despite some anticipation among TLoU fans, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment received a lukewarm reaction to upcoming PS5 remake's announcement and people are calling it a mere "cash grab" but a studio stuffer simply disagrees.
Bend Studio animator Robert Morrison recently took social media to address his issue regarding TLoU Remake being called a cash grab attempt, stating that it's a "meticulously built and crafted project" with highest level of attention to detail.
A few months ago, he claimed that PlayStation has some "bangers" coming out this year but it's not God of War: Ragnarök. Morrison was seemingly referring to TLoU Remake and fans are mad at Sony for investing resource and time into this.
The Last of Us Part I developer Robert Morrison shares his statement over "cash grab" criticisms on Twitter.
“It’s just a cash grab”

Actually it’s the most meticulously built and crafted project that I have ever seen or been a part of in my entire career. The highest level of care and attention to detail possible. pic.twitter.com/csjZ3kZMyG
Although no one is forced to buy it, charging $10 more for a "Definitive Experience" really won't encourage many players to get a copy. Even though price is subjective to each person, charging $69.99 for an upgraded version is a bit too much.
Morrison has previously worked at Microsoft Game Studios as a lead animator before he joined Sony-owned Bend Studio. His credits include God of War (2018) reboot, Injustice 2 and Resident Evil VII before working on The Last of Us Remake.
Regardless of fan-criticism, The Last of Us Part 1: Firefly Edition sold out right away as pre-order went live. Sony wanted to release the remake to tie-in with upcoming live-action TV adaptation for The Last of Us ahead of its premiere on HBO.
The Last of Us series lovers are particularly angry over Sony for doing a remake of 2013 original even though it already has a remaster. Moreover, Naughty Dog has yet to release a multiplayer mode for The Last of Us Part 2 since 2018 launch.
