Fan-interest in video games based on Marvel characters were greatly revitalized in recent years following 2018 release of action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man by developer Insomniac Games, exclusively for PlayStation 4 consoles.
Insomniac is currently working on a sequel to Spider-Man and a standalone Marvel's Wolverine game for PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, latest insider sources suggest that publisher Electronic Arts is reportedly developing a Black Panther game.
Recently during a GiantBomb stream on Twitch, industry insider Jeff Grubb reveals that a Black Panther game is currently in works at EA. It will be an open-world, single-player experience and in very early phase of development at present.
EA's newly rumored Black Panther game is being helmed by former Monolith Productions boss Kevin Stephens, which starts with Black Panther being dead and players embark on a journey to become the brand-new protector of Wakanda.
Grubb adds that you will be taking on many challenges of becoming new Black Panther instead of playing as T'Challa himself and is currently titled "Project Rainier", maybe as a nod to Mount Rainier in Seattle, where EA's new studio is set.
Electronic Arts hired former studio head at Monolith Productions, Kevin Stephens to supervise development of open-world action-adventure game and previously oversaw games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.
