After its 2017 announcement, upcoming action-adventure hack and slash game Bayonetta 3 by developer Platinum Games and publisher Nintendo was in a long-hiatus until it made a surprise gameplay reveal at Nintendo Direct last year.
Through no official release date has been announced yet, Nintendo assures that Bayonetta 3 is still coming in 2022. Moreover, newfound ESRB rating on its Nintendo eShop hints at a possible release date reveal maybe coming very soon.
Bayonetta 3 received a mature rating for sexual content, violence and some in-game purchases at Entertainment Software Rating Board, suggesting that content development is complete and Nintendo will share a release window shortly.
Extreme action and raunchy themes are pretty synonymous with Bayonetta series but having a mature rating for in-app purchases is weird. However, it probably refers to paid DLC costumes or follow-up expansion instead of loot boxes.
A number of anticipated Nintendo Switch-exclusives like Live A Live, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are already lined up for an overly crowded 2022 release calendar.
Bayonetta 3 is a long-anticipated series sequel that fans are waiting for years now but Nintendo has yet to start promoting it. There may not be a major Direct presentation anytime soon and a trailer might casually confirm its release date.
