Beginning development for upcoming action role-playing game Starfield back in 2015, a teaser trailer was revealed by developer/publisher Bethesda Softworks at E3 2018 press conference, which is currently scheduled to arrive in 2023.
At recent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 livestream, a new trailer offered a first-look at gameplay and made people excited. Bethesda Game Studios also confirms that Starfield will not feature a voiced protagonist like Fallout 4.
In a follow-up to latest showcase, Bethesda took their social media handles to assure fans that Starfield in-game dialogues will take place in first-person perspective and player character has no voice line, thus responding to fan-concern.
A non-voiced main character will make Starfield very similar to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim than Fallout 4, as director Todd Howard promised. However, fans are having a mixed reaction to the news by either praising or criticizing such idea.
Many argue that having a voiced protagonist can make it a very immersive RPG experience like Cyberpunk 2077 and Mass Effect. People who want a silent lead suggests it can be a blank slate for any player to create their unique narrative.
Instead of allowing you to build a relatable persona, Bethesda would force you to choose from an existing personality in Fallout 4. Removing voice options for main character actually lets you create a non-generic RPG protagonist after all.
Some fans actually enjoyed controversial Fallout 4 feature of having a player voice throughout their entire gameplay experience. Despite adding no voice acting, players will have access to a character creation section for personalization.
Starfield was delayed to early 2023 alongside upcoming open-world shooter Redfall to release the best version of these games. Bethesda's highly-anticipated RPG is currently set to debut as an exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X/S console.
