As a sequel to massive successful 2018 superhero action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announces a follow-up at PlayStation Showcase 2021 digital event.
Other than a set 2023 release window, nothing else is revealed regarding upcoming PlayStation 5-exclusive sequel. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is in full development and Insomniac recently hired a creative director who worked on MCU movies.
Davison Carvalho has previously worked on more than a few Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange and Thor: Ragnarok before signing up as new art director for upcoming PS5 sequel at Insomniac.
Carvalho was involved in early development stages and created some environment concept arts for Doctor Strange movie. He also has experience with a few high-profile gaming franchises like Amazon's Crucible, Mortal Kombat X and more.
He joined Insomniac Games dev team back in February 2022 and is likely to contribute making a shared in-game universe like MCU. In recent years, many Marvel video games are contradicting established canon that devs may want to avoid.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will seemingly keep a balance between past events and new adventures planned for the sequel. Meanwhile, art directors for first two Spider-Man games are working on Marvel's Wolverine, exclusive on PS5 consoles.
