Only a year after launching The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4, developer Naughty Dog have reportedly started working on a remake of 2013's The Last of Us that publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to release on PlayStation 5.
Back in February, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has teased working on three new projects on social media. Most recently, LinkedIn profile of a studio QA tester possibly hinting at a long-rumored The Last of Us Remake for PS5.
Naughty Dog QA tester Corey Hong joined studio in 2019 and listed two unannounced projects on LinkedIn page, one of them is mentioned as "unannounced multiplayer project" and another one is noted as "unannounced remake project".
Newfound listing of a multiplayer game could be highly-anticipated Factions mode for The Last of Us 2. However, unannounced remake project is most probably a tease at previously rumored PS5 re-release of original The Last of Us Remake.
Bloomberg report claimed Visual Arts Service Group at PlayStation was originally developing it before Naughty Dog took over. An industry insider stated that TLoU Remake along with TLoU2: Director's Cut and multiplayer will arrive in 2022.
The Last of Us Remake for PlayStation 5 could help Sony capitalize on upcoming TV adaptation for HBO, which is set to premiere next year. Naughty Dog is also hiring for their first standalone multiplayer game after TLoU2 multiplayer delays.
