According to an early report by industry insider Tom Henderson, publisher Activision is likely to release Call of Duty 2022 early due to poor sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard and it will be a sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game.
Earlier in February, developer Infinity Ward confirmed releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone Chapter 2 this year. Most recently, they are cryptically teasing at Modern Warfare sequel on social media, hinting at reveal soon.
Infinity Ward has changed their social media profile pics and header images to a seemingly dark one. However, they are not fully pitch black and enhancing them will actually reveal everyone's favorite Modern Warfare 2 protagonist Ghost.
Call of Duty studios usually starts teasing their major upcoming releases ahead of a huge reveal worldwide. Last year, Call of Duty: Warzone have teased Vanguard just days ahead of an official teaser footage, followed by a full reveal trailer.
Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley originally appeared in 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a non-playable character. Ghost's voice actor was fired earlier for making sexist remarks but his character will eventually return for MW sequel.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II built on a new engine alongside new iteration of Warzone can be a huge boost for Call of Duty franchise. Meanwhile, Activision has moved away from a yearly release schedule for CoD games after a decade.
