A long-anticipated release of 2022 action role-playing game Elden Ring from developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has already met with universal acclaim throughout globe and caters to Dark Souls fans.
Elden Ring didn't only shatter all records of other Soulsborne games including Dark Souls III in UK history, From Software's latest has been the biggest non-Call of Duty or FIFA game release since Red Dead Redemption 2 in October 2018.
According to recent digital and physical GSD sales data on GamesIndustry.biz, Elden Ring sold over twice as much as Horizon Forbidden West. Its opening week sales were bigger than both Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077.
Elden Ring digital and physical total sales were 32% on PlayStation 5, 30% on PC, 29% on Xbox and 9% on PS4. Updated numbers shows that Forbidden West has moved to an overall second place and right behind FIFA 22 on digital charts.
GSD figures reveal that 68% of Elden Ring sales were from digital downloads over PC and Xbox platforms. Almost 73% of PC sales and 85% of Xbox were downloaded but overall digital sales for PlayStation were above 50% on PS4 and PS5.
Elden Ring beat physical launch of Dark Souls III despite steep decline in Souls-like genre sales for past six years. Moreover, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition somehow also made it to UK sales charts.
