A third entry into Total War: Warhammer sub-series, 2022 real-time strategy game Total War: Warhammer III by developer Creative Assembly and publisher Sega has been launched earlier this week on PC via Steam with mixed reception.
Although an anticipated release, Total War: Warhammer 3 didn't exactly have a great opening on Steam and got review-bombed by Chinese players for how marketing team has handled its promotion before launch across Chinese market.
Niko Partners' senior analyst Daniel Ahmad broke down why Total War: Warhammer 3 getting review-bombed on social media recently, citing that even though received positively, the game has a 72% negative reviews in Chinese language.
Despite not having an official release, Total War series is massively popular in China and drives major sales numbers. Previously released Total War: Three Kingdoms becomes fastest-selling game in series history, thanks to Chinese market.

Total War: Three Kingdoms became the fastest selling game in the series thanks to sales in China.
Warhammer III was anticipated due to one of the factions being based on China.
Players were looking forward to Warhammer III due to inclusion of playable human faction of Grand Cathay, based on ancient China. However, they are let down by how Creative Assembly and live streaming site DouYu promoted the title.
In past, Total War games were targeted to core fans by influencers and certain in-game pieces were kept secret to avoid spoilers. This time, too many people received Early Access version of Warhammer III and spoiled a lot of plot elements.
Fans who pre-ordered are upset because influencers got Early Access copies have ruined it but series fans had to wait until launch. Frustration among players due to failed marketing strategy has eventually lead to a wave of negative reviews.
Total War: Warhammer III had massive pre-order numbers due to its appeal in Chinese market but Creative Assembly has seemingly dropped the ball while trying to reach a broader audience this time only to get review-bombed by core fans.
