Resident Evil 4 Remake Could Reportedly Be Announced Soon |
Although not officially been confirmed by developer/publisher Capcom, a full scale remake of 2005 survival horror Resident Evil 4 is reportedly under development since 2018, according to several leaks and sources from industry insider.
Shortly after Resident Evil 3 Remake release, rumor of Resident Evil 4 Remake surfaced online with a 2022 release window. A new report claims RE4 Remake will be revealed very soon and will have a few changes compared to original.
Fanbyte journalist Imran Khan writes, Capcom was very impressed by Resident Evil 2 Remake and started working on Resident Evil 4 project and if everything goes smoothly, RE4 Remake is likely to be officially announced early this year.
Capcom thought by giving clearance to a remake, they can probably convince series creator and original Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami to team up with his old friend Tatsuya Minami at M-Two, a studio by ex-Platinum Games stuffs.
Tango Gameworks founder Mikami was intrigued by their offer but eventually declined it as he believed Tango would fall apart in his absence. M-Two has previously worked on Resident Evil 3 Remake but received mixed response from fans.
Capcom shifted focus on RE4 Remake development and Resident Evil 2 Remake project leads in charge. M-Two continued serving as a support studio for upcoming title and their original work was still being used by internal Division 1 team.
At that point, Capcom was not looking for a scene-by-scene remake anymore as they originally planned for. Instead, they decided to make some change in story elements and overall settings to make it scarier and match with new remakes.
Resident Evil 4 opening sequence had Leon S. Kennedy, now a secret service agent showing up at a European village during daytime, RE4 Remake will make adjust to that timeline by setting it up at nighttime, including a big part of the game.
This decision to change time was not random at all as Capcom wanted RE4 Remake to be much scarier, even taking direct cues from cancelled "Fog" and "Hook Man" demo version, which was shown for early Nintendo GameCube previews.
Revealed back in E3 2003, Leon was seen wandering across a castle, fighting various apparitions after being possessed by a black smoke. Capcom scrapped most of it on cutting room floor and some of these ideas were used for original RE4.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will have direct comparisons to these concepts with little changes to the story by extending side character roles. For example, Capcom wishes to add onto Assignment: Ada, a short side-campaign featuring Ada Wong.
GameCube version of RE4 didn't have much for the mini-campaign in terms of story but lets you explore and collect Las Plagas samples. It was a non-canon take and other console versions will include a campaign titled Separate Ways later on.
M-Two is currently working on expanding Assignment: Ada and Separate Ways, trying to bundle them into a single package. Dev team is aiming to offer a fluid experience since original version lacked a lot of polish and add to source material.
Capcom is planning to announce Resident Evil 4 Remake in early 2022 but there could be delays due to internal reasons. Also, an early leak last year showing Albert Wesker redesign was not a part of RE4 but a cancelled Resident Evil project.
