For last few years, developer/publisher Rockstar Games was ignoring many of their known IPs in favor of online component for Grand Theft Auto V, their biggest money maker and multiple ports of older games for newer generations.
Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive teases possible sequels for several of their much-loved games like L.A. Noire, Max Payne and Midnight Club during recent earnings results, possibly hinting at a return to series.
In recent earnings call for 2022 Q3, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick teases at reviving dormant IPs. Zelnick mentions of Take-Two's upcoming pipeline of games that includes sequel to a number of their fan-favorite franchises.
He then shared a slideshow showing images of L.A. Noire, Max Payne and Midnight Club, which has been sidelined for a decade. Dedicated fans waited many years and had hopes to see these titles to make a long-anticipated comeback.
Interestingly enough, two of these games are not Rockstar originals as L.A. Noire was acquired by Take-Two from Australian developer Team Bondi and Max Payne was originally developed by Remedy Entertainment, debuted in 2001.
Earlier last year, Rockstar has quietly removed first two Max Payne games from Steam for few regions for some unknown reasons, which lead to rumors of Max Payne: Definitive Edition and renewed conversation about a series revival.
A week ago, Rockstar has confirmed working on new Grand Theft Auto game and release date for GTA 5 next-gen console versions. There is also recurring rumor regarding a Bully sequel or remaster being in works but not revealed yet.
Take-Two Interactive CEO teasing a returning lineup of classic will surely excite many Rockstar Games fans. It may take a while for them to announce any of these projects and therefore, it would be wise to keep your expectation low.
