Regarded as one of the best video games of all time, 1997 first-person shooter GoldenEye 007 by developer Rare Studio and publisher Nintendo has greatly inspired FPS genre for past few generations and probably deserves a remaster.
After a list of Xbox Achievements for GoldenEye 007 was spotted online earlier, fans started to believe that a re-release is on the way. A recent insider report also claims that GoldenEye 007 remake may officially be announced very soon.
According to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, HD remaster of Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 could be revealed in next few weeks. He also stated that GoldenEye will be announced by Microsoft instead of original publisher Nintendo.
Other than an Achievements list leak for Xbox on live console servers lead people to speculate that a remaster may be on its way, Germany recently lifted an ongoing ban on GoldenEye 007 after receiving a request from Nintendo in 2021.
Back in 2010, original GoldenEye 007 was remade for Wii consoles by developer Eurocom and publisher Activision. Newly re-imagined version would replace Pierce Bronson with then-Bond actor Daniel Craig to match with a series reboot.
GoldenEye 007 remaster for current generation has not been confirmed by Microsoft or Rare Studio just yet and trying to keep quiet about it. GoldenEye re-release may tie to James Bond franchise's 60th anniversary celebration in 2022.
