Following recent buyout of video game giant Activision/Blizzard by Microsoft, a yearly release schedule for Call of Duty games may come to an end after this year, so developers can work on other projects and make major changes to series.
Insider sources claim that Call of Duty 2022 may launch earlier than expected due to low sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard last year. Also, developer Infinity Ward has teased upcoming Call of Duty game and brand-new Warzone Experiences.
Activision has recently confirmed that Infinity Ward will be developing Call of Duty 2022 during fourth quarter 2021 earnings call. Shortly afterwards, dev studio teased a "new generation of Call of Duty" on social media without much detail.
Though there is no official confirmation regarding what title Infinity Ward is currently working on, early rumors suggests it to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, a sequel to 2019's rebooted take on highly-acclaimed Modern Warfare series.
Infinity Ward may bring back familiar faces like General Shepherd, Ghost and Soap McTavish for Modern Warfare 2. According to reports, Call of Duty 2022 will move away from World War 3-level threats and focus more on real-world issues.
Modern Warfare will send Task Force 141 after Columbian drug cartel and may take inspiration from films like Sicario. Like its 2019 predecessor, MW2 reboot campaign will be dark and gritty with lot of immersive features for new generation.
After Q4 2021 financial results, Infinity Ward takes tease fans a new generation of Call of Duty on Twitter.

Stay frosty.
Activision announces that Infinity Ward is working on their most ambitious Call of Duty game in franchise history. Unlike both Sledgehammer and Treyarch, they are at least having a full three-year development cycle to properly finish a game.
Call of Duty 2022 is reportedly releasing in October this year and recent social media post hints at a reveal coming very soon. Insider report says Modern Warfare 2 will arrive alongside an all-new arena for Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale.
