After being announced for a PC release during The Game Awards 2021 event, 2020 action role-playing game Final Fantasy VII Remake from developer/publisher Square Enix has launched on Epic Game Store, likely as a timed exclusive.
Final Fantasy series fans have been waiting for FFVIIR to arrive on PC ever since it launched on PlayStation 4 last year. However, newly released PC version of FF7 reportedly has some major performance issues due to bad optimization.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake port for PC is an enhanced version titled Intergrade and it suffers from intense frame rate drops. Digital Foundry journalist Alex Battaglia has faced a few long stutter as he started playing FF7 on "Default Mode".
Battaglia used a RTX3090 GPU and i9-10900K processor to capture Final Fantasy VII footage at 1080p. There was still stuttering in early section of FF7 whenever he was spinning the camera, followed by considerable drop in frame rate.
Alex Battaglia and John Linneman confirmed a host of issues in PC version of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Alert: Alex sent his clips over for us to check out and, yeah, the PC port of FFVIIR is terrible. He captured this using an RTX3090 + 10900k at just 1080p and it's a mess. The smooth presentation was central to its story telling and this version compromises it. https://t.co/wE9Wj1OAEz

These claims were corroborated by colleague John Linneman from Eurogamer, who added that a smooth presentation is most essential to FFVII story and Square Enix released a PC version of FF7 Remake that completely compromises it.
Battaglia also pointed out that RivaTuner monitoring program didn't seem to have picked up a drop in frame rates; even though FFVIIR should be running at 60 FPS and condition of overall in-game rendered graphics is just unacceptable.
Digital Foundry is likely to make a full breakdown video on Final Fantasy VII Remake issues later this week. Meanwhile, Alex Battaglia stated that this is one of the worst AAA release on PC in a very long time and no one should purchase it.
PC release of Final Fantasy VII Remake has been a topic for controversy upon reveal because of Square Enix's decision to sell it for $69.99, an increased price in par with next-gen console titles and being first major publisher to do it on PC.
