Final Fantasy XVI Was Delayed Due to COVID-19, New Reveal Coming Soon |
Throughout this year, upcoming PlayStation 5-exclusive action role-playing game Final Fantasy XVI by developer/publisher Square Enix was largely absent at press events like E3 2021, Tokyo Game Show and The Game Awards altogether.
FFXVI producer Naoki Yoshida previously stated in an interview that he will show a new trailer shortly ahead of release. Yoshida also promised to reveal more information by end of 2021 but recently announced to delay that plan to 2022.
Fans already assumed that there won't be any news regarding Final Fantasy 16 this year, as we are only less than a week away from 2022. Yoshida has apologized for disappointing everyone and thanked series fans for continued support.
He also stated that due to ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, work restrictions have delayed development about half a year. Work from home had an impact on communications and thus, production progress has been greatly delayed.
Naoki Yoshida addresses FFXVI development progress through an official announcement on Twitter today.

Square Enix will be celebrating 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy series in 2022 and may reveal new Final Fantasy 16 footage. Given that FFXVI is a timed PS5-exclusvie title, it could very well be showcased at Sony State of Play livestream.
Final Fantasy XVI still has no possible release window teased by either Naoki Yoshida or Square Enix so far. However, FFXVI is likely to come out next year at a later date considering Yoshida's previous statement about a new trailer reveal.
