Returning after a long hiatus since BioShock Infinite, a fourth installment of retro-futuristic first-person shooter franchise was announced by developer Cloud Chamber and publisher 2K Games back in 2019 with no other details whatsoever.
A week ago, an official title, story details and world setting for BioShock 4 have reportedly been leaked by a 2019 developer presentation. Another new leak recently reveals a possible location, setting and a supposed launch window of 2022.
According to journalist Colin Moriarty, next BioShock game is set during 1960s, in a fictional city of Antarctic called Borealis. It will have narrative ties to previous series entries and is expected to arrive at some point in 2022 from 2K Games.
Cloud Chamber codenamed new BioShock game as "Parkside" and they are being very secretive about it. BioShock series creator Ken Levine won't be returning for newest sequel but dev team is given full creative freedom to get things right.
Jonathan Pelling serves as design director for BioShock 4, who was a designer for first BioShock game and created floating world of Infinite. Another original alum Hoagy de la Plante is working as creative director for upcoming BioShock title.
Art director for BioShock and BioShock Infinite, Scott Sinclair joins Cloud Chamber studio along with many other series veterans. An early job listing even hinted that 2K Games wants to create character-driven stories for open-world settings.
Although a leak claimed that BioShock 4 will be revealed in Q1 2022, it may also get showcased at The Game Awards 2021 event next week. 2K Games and Cloud Chamber could also release a teaser to hype up fans ahead of reveal next year.
Early rumor suggests that next BioShock game could be titled BioShock Isolation, which focuses on themes of classism and politics. After exploring an underwater society and cloud-based city, BioShock series moves to an icy wonderland next.
