An early investor report teased that developer Remedy Entertainment is working on two games in partnership with publisher Epic Games and one of those projects was a sequel to Alan Wake, which has moved to full production recently.
Remedy Entertainment finally made an official announcement at The Game Awards 2021 event and revealed Alan Wake II for PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is currently scheduled to be released in 2023.
A brief teaser trailer revealed at TGA 2021 offers a glimpse at ominous settings of upcoming Alan Wake 2.
During development phase of original Alan Wake game, Remedy already had some concept for a sequel at some point in future. After ending it in a cliffhanger, it took over a decade for writer Sam Lake to eventually bring him back again.
Throughout these years, Sam was always working on Alan Wake sequel with a small team as he would come up with different new ideas. Although a concept was there, funding for a big game project became a lot bigger problem for him.
After launching sci-fi adventure game Control in 2019, Remedy Entertainment has established a connected universe. There was a crossover between Alan Wake and Control in AWE expansion, strongly hinting at a sequel Alan Wake game.
Alan Wake II will be Remedy's first attempt at survival horror to truly connect its gameplay and a mysterious story premise. Moreover, new players need not to play any previous game to fully enjoy it but knowing backstory will be better.
