A highly-anticipated sequel to The World Ends With You, 2021 action role-playing game NEO: The World Ends With You by developer/publisher Square Enix has been launched for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 earlier this year.
On release, NEO: TWEWY had great a Metacritic score based on positive response from critics and fans. However, 2021 sequel has failed to meet internal sales expectations, according to a financial report published by Square Enix.
Newly revealed details of first six months for current fiscal year, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda states that NEO: The World Ends With You didn't meet their initial projections even though it was well-received by series fans.
Matsuda added that both Life is Strange: True Colors and NEO came out on second quarter of this fiscal year. They also plan to release Life is Strange: Remastered Collection for Switch and expects to sell a little bit better eventually.
NEO goes back to original location of Shibuya, Tokyo, sending players to take part in Reapers' Game for a survival experience. TWEWY sequel moves away from 2D sprites of first game in favor of a three-dimensional art style now.
