Debuted earlier this month, 2021 action-adventure game Metroid Dread by developer Mercury Steam and publisher Nintendo is latest entry into mainline Metroid series, launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch to receive universal acclaim.
As old-school fans returns to experience newest adventure of bounty hunter Samus Aran, many have yet to buy it. Nintendo has released a free Metroid Dread demo for Switch owners to give it a try without any cost to celebrate Halloween.
Dread takes series protagonist Samus Aran on planet ZDR to investigate a distress transmission but she gets trapped there instead. Without her suit, Samus struggles to survive against deadly E.M.M.I. robots while trying to escape from ZDR.
According to reports, every other Metroid game has been sold out in Japan during launch week of Dread. It also outsold almost every series titles excluding Fusion (2003), Hunters (2006) and original Metroid (1986) in terms of lifetime sales.
Dread returns to original 2D side-scrolling adventure after nearly 20 years, serving as a follow-up sequel to Metroid Fusion (2002). It has become fastest-selling Metroid game in UK history as well as fifth biggest Switch title of ongoing year.
Metroid Dread free demo is currently available to download Nintendo Switch eShop, across all regions including Europe and Japan. Players who don't own a copy yet can experience a limited playthrough, before making a purchase decision.
