After controversial departure of game director Hideo Kojima and critically-panned 2018 action-adventure survival game Metal Gear Survive, developer/publisher Konami has mostly limited their efforts on re-launching old, classic games.
However, a recent claim suggests that legendary Japanese gaming company is making a return with development of new games and remakes of fan-favorite series like Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill for modern console system.
According to a report from VGC, both internal and external studios of Konami are now working on Castlevania, Metal Gear and Silent Hill series, one of their top-priority being a "reimagining" of medieval fantasy platform game Castlevania.
Konami is additionally planning to release remasters of original Metal Gear Solid games for new generation of consoles. A number of other sources also claim that a complete remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is under development.
Konami is apparently discussing Metal Gear projects internally for some time and though some sources assumed that a remake will be handled by Bluepoint Games, it was recently confirmed that Singaporean studio Virtuos is working on it.
Virtuos has previously developed Nintendo Switch version of Dark Souls and The Outer Worlds. They were also contributors to AAA-games like Battlefield 1 and Horizon Zero Dawn in past and Metal Gear Solid 3 will be their first solo project.
Moreover, multiple Silent Hill games are currently in development and one of them involves a "prominent" Japanese developer. Industry insiders believe that Polish studio Bloober Team is in charge for at least one of these Silent Hill games.
Konami has announced a partnership with Bloober Team back in June 2021 and fueled rumors of Silent Hill collaboration. They are likely to reveal ongoing key-projects on various showcase events, if COVID-19 situation gets better in 2022.
