A long-awaited release date for upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was announced by developer/publisher Rockstar Games earlier for major gaming platforms, set to arrive next month on November 11, 2021.
Aside from adding gameplay improvements and visual enhancements for upcoming GTA trilogy, Rockstar has apparently changed appearance of a known character by removing a Confederate Flag on his t-shirt in recently revealed trailer.
An eagle-eyed fan has pointed out on social media site Reddit that latest trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Remastered Trilogy had appearance of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City character Phil Cassidy altered by Rockstar Games for its re-release.
He originally wore a black t-shirt with an image of a Confederate Flag on it, which has now been swapped with a skull. Cassidy previously appeared in both Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, as a Vietnam War veteran of many stereotypes.
Reddit user Chazza354 has posted a comparison of GTA trilogy new trailer and original version of Phil Cassidy.
Rockstar Games is notoriously known for their tongue in cheek portrayal of American satire and given how Grand Theft Auto series has always been a tool for dark humor; it's weird for them to remove the mockery of a hate symbol like it.
These new changes are raising questions among GTA fan-community about whether Rockstar is changing dialogues or objectives as well. Rockstar have probably made these changes to please a modern-day audience or just for the trailer.
Rockstar Games have also replaced a Confederate flag in Grand Theft Auto V with an American flag at The Lost trailer park in past. Last year, British developer Playground Games has banned players on Forza for using the flag on vehicle.
There is no confirmation on how many changes were made by Rockstar for re-release of classic Grand Theft Auto games yet but fans won't have to wait much longer to find out whatever they removed for the sake of political correctness.
