A sequel to 2018 action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man has been in works for some time, which was revealed earlier during PlayStation Showcase event by developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Releasing exclusively on PlayStation 5 next year, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 brings back everyone's favorite wall-crawler in web-slinging action and official sources at Marvel already confirms that his upcoming adventure will be a little darker.
In a recent episode of This Week in Marvel podcast, Marvel Games creative vice president Bill Rosemann made a guest appearance and sheds some of light on upcoming highly-anticipated superhero sequel game Spider-Man 2 for PS5.
Rosemann confirms that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be a bit darker than its predecessor and he compares 2018 original game to Star Wars: A New Hope in contrast to 2023 follow-up, which is like Insomniac's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes.
Bill Rosemann made comparison to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and its 2018 predecessor games in light of Star Wars.
If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire, It gets a little darker.
Marvel's Spider-Man has focused on a relatively lighter tone and now for a sequel, Insomniac is making things bleaker for Spidey and Miles. Also, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is being developed on a much larger scale, according to a voice actor.
In first official trailer, Insomniac Games have set up Peter and Miles against anti-heroic Venom and an unseen enemy that is presumably Sergei Kravinoff AKA Kraven the Hunter, two of most formidable foes Spider-Man has ever faced off.
Bill Rosemann also stated that dev team has added everything fans loved from first Spider-Man game and its spin-off but more. Insomniac crews made slight changes to update their costumes and has tweaked on a number of smaller detail.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 being darker actually ties in line with Marvel's Wolverine, which will be a full size game with mature tone. For now, story premise for both games remain unclear but Bill suggested that more will be revealed quite soon.
