Metroid Dread Cinematic Teaser Trailer

In a surprise announcement during Nintendo Direct E3 2021 event in June, developer Mercury Steam and publisher Nintendo officially reveals upcoming 2D action-adventure game Metroid Dread to launch for Nintendo Switch consoles.

Although set to arrive later this year, Nintendo is releasing a variety of gameplay footage and trailers to keep up the hype. Meanwhile, another brand-new trailer for Metroid Dread makes its debut today, featuring opening cinematic.

Nintendo rolls out a new Metroid Dread cinematic trailer that shows a glimpse from opening sequence.

Latest trailer shows bounty hunter Samus Aran heading over to investigate a report on planet ZDR. Upon receiving a transmission suggesting deadly X parasites from Metroid Fusion are still alive, Galactic Federation responded promptly.

They sent out seven E.M.M.I. robot (Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifier) units but all of them mysteriously disappeared. Due to such unexpected turn of events, they eventually had to contact Samus to retrieve their missing assets.

She flies her starship into ZDR's atmosphere and everything cuts to black for moments only to show that she crash landed. Waking up, Samus finds herself wearing a blue suit instead of her orange and yellow power suit for some reason.

Earlier, it was shown at E3 2021 trailer that she was pursued and cornered by a rogue E.M.M.I. unit that easily overpowered her. Metroid Dread is likely to explore reasons behind what went wrong with these bots and her new power suit.

Nintendo also revealed further details about her powers in a recent blog, confirming her ability to aim and shoot beam attacks from her arm cannon at all directions, much like Metroid: Samus Returns on Nintendo 3DS handheld consoles.

Metroid Dread will allow players to perform arm cannon attacks and melee counters from any positions. Mercury Steam dev team states that Samus no longer needs to stand still when free aiming, thanks to Switch's twin-stick controls.
