Grand Theft Auto: Remastered Trilogy Reportedly in Development

Grand Theft Auto: Remastered Trilogy Reportedly in Development

There have been a number of rumors across message boards and social media for over a year regarding developer/publisher Rockstar Games may be working on remakes or remasters of PlayStation 2-era classic Grand Theft Auto games.

A new report claims that Rockstar Games is currently planning remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, that are on final stages of development for every major platforms and mobile.


Rumors of Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy only became more apparent when Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive actively starts taking down classic GTA mods from online, possibly in anticipation of upcoming announcement.

These three classic GTA games are arriving on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games is likely to reveal more details very soon when we get closer to its release window.


Rockstar Dundee, formerly known as Ruffian Games has been working on rumored re-release of GTA Remastered Trilogy. Arriving in a single bundle for PC and cross-gen consoles, GTA Trilogy will also be available on mobile devices in late 2021.

Rockstar is rebuilding Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas and Vice City using Unreal Engine with a mixture of "new and old graphics" that one source have described as "heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title" by seeing only a snippet of it.


Originally planned to release earlier this year, schedule for GTA Remastered Trilogy was shifted due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Given their success, Rockstar may release ports for games like Red Dead Redemption and more in near future.

Rockstar Games is reportedly trying to keep Grand Theft Auto Trilogy gameplay close to original PS2 versions. While retaining their classic vibes, UI are being updated as well but what extents are they going to remake these games are not clear.
