After hosting a Technical Alpha back in December 2020 and Closed Alpha testing in April 2021, fans were expecting to get a release date for upcoming free-to-play action role-playing game Diablo Immortal for Android and iOS devices.

In a recent development update, developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that their long-anticipated mobile action RPG has now been delayed until first half of 2022 in order to improve endgame content and gameplay.

Activision/Blizzard reflects upon recent player feedback from Closed Alpha test and decided to tweak its various aspects. To implement these changes and make additional improvements, it would take an extended timeframe than 2021.

Blizzard will be shaping up PvP content for Diablo Immortal a lot like Cycle of Strife for adding accessibility. Dev team also plans to make PvE content more engaging for players while focusing on tuning controller support to be responsive.

Before next Beta testing phase goes live, Blizzard intends to change how PvE activities work and introduce Raids into Helliquary system. Adapting touch screen commands to a controller for a seamless experience is also on their priority list.

Diablo Immortal gameplay preview looks very similar to early entries from mainline series and has that same feel. Players would begin their adventure from a neutral safe zone and eventually explore into areas infested with demon hordes.

Originally announced during BlizzCon 2018 event, Diablo Immortal received a mostly negative response from franchise fans. However, that backlash died down once they revealed Diablo IV next year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Given the number of things Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on, delaying release of Diablo Immortal to next year is essential to allow dev team enough time to polish further and help it live up to legacy of its predecessor titles.
