Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Promotional Art Teases Call of Duty 2021 |
On eve of upcoming Season 5 for 2020 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, developer Treyarch and publisher Activision have already started revealing various promotional images and teaser footages across social media.
A newly released official key-art for Black Ops Cold War Season 5 is seemingly hinting at next entry in Call of Duty annual shooter franchise and Activision may end up revealing Call of Duty 2021 through a surprise in-game event very soon.
Most recently, YouTuber Eric Maynard has pointed out that newest promotional image for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War/Warzone Season 5 has a bunch of Japanese text on its background, which roughly translates as "Vanguard is coming".
Earlier this year, Activision confirmed releasing next Call of Duty game at 2021 holiday season during annual earnings call. Last year, Black Ops Cold War was revealed by end of August and may use similar marketing tactic in 2021 as well.
Eric Maynard has shared his findings of Activision teasing "Call of Duty: WWII Vanguard" reveal on Twitter.

There are tons of rumors regarding Call of Duty 2021 out there and Activision has yet to make an official announcement on whether Sledgehammer Games is working on a game set in World War II-era, which is rumoredly titled "Vanguard".
Sledgehammer Games was reportedly tasked to helm Call of Duty 2020 but backed out because of some trouble in production. Activision has greenlit for Treyarch to release Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to buy Sledgehammer some time.
If rumors are true, then Call of Duty 2021 will take place in Pacific Theater and latest tease via Japanese text could be a nod to that. Sledgehammer is returning to Call of Duty franchise after five years, going back to WWII setting once again.
Activision will reportedly announce Call of Duty: WWII Vanguard in coming months through an in-game Warzone event like last year. Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games is probably waiting to hype things up for good before an official reveal.
