Deathloop Gameplay Walkthrough Trailer |
Inspired by iconic games like Dishonored and Prey, upcoming retro-styled action shooter game Deathloop from developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks invites everyone to a definitive next-gen first-person experience.
In today's State of Play livestream, Arkane reveals a new gameplay walkthrough footage, which focuses on combat elements and a certain segment of Deathloop that is about a few hours into game before its release on September 14, 2021.
Deathloop game director, Dinga Bakaba narrates an extended 9-minute long official gameplay walkthrough.
Player character Colt wakes up on a mysterious island called Blackreef and is tasked to kill eight key-targets in a single day. Each time he fails, a time-loop will take him to where he started and will be forced to continue his efforts once again.
In latest Deathloop trailer, Colt is after one of the eight Visionaries known as Aleksis "The Wolf" Dorsey. Knowing that he would show up at night for a masquerade party, Colt attempts to find an entry point to his mansion to sneak in there.
You would come across many obstacles in your way to complete any objectives but keep an eye on for messages left behind. Often times, these helpful directions and tips won't make sense at all but Colt will eventually figure everything out.
Aside from wielding various firearms throughout story campaign, Colt also displays abilities to use various powers. Across 16 different map locations, he can use his powers and surrounding environment to assassinate every major target.
In between taking out people that comes after you, take a pause to hear conversations among themselves to learn valuable information. Whatever playstyle you have, certain missions might require you to take a different approach to win.
Once you successfully kill any of these Visionaries, they will drop a new ability or upgrade to an existing power. For example, Colt already could throw people off like ragdolls using his Karnesis ability and he gets an upgrade for killing Aleksis.
Experiment With Playstyles |
Colt will also pick up an element known as Residuum whenever he takes down an Eternalist or a Visionary. This unique item allows players to permanently keep their favorite abilities or gear in personal arsenal and carry them through loops.
One of his most useful ability is Reprise, which prevents an automatic reset of time-loop when you die. Colt will be able to rewind time twice and try again without restarting from beginning but being killed a third time spells doom for him.
Newly released trailer for Deathloop showcases character dynamics between Colt and Julianna. As protagonist Colt keeps trying to end this cycle of time-loop, Julianna is repeatedly taunting him about how he will end up failing regardless.
Serving as Colt's antagonist, his rival character Julianna can either be played by another person or controlled by A.I. Though it's still unclear how they know each other, their ongoing exchange suggests that these two had a history together.
Players can always learn new things from these setbacks, whenever they are killed and time is reset to another day. Though inhabitants of Blackreef won't have any memory of the past day, Colt will remember their behavior and locations.
Even though Deathloop only has 16 map variations, you can expect a lot of playthroughs due to repeatedly being killed by Julianna. A future trailer may shed light on how gameplay experience will change when a player chose to take her side.

Deathloop will be available on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 console as a timed exclusive title later this year. You can place your pre-order right now to get bonus items; "Storm Rider" Colt character skin along with an equippable Trinket.
