A worthy conclusion to iconic Dark Souls trilogy, 2016 action role-playing game Dark Souls III by developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has been a staple entry in "Soulsborne" genre from entire franchise.
In a surprise announcement lately, official Twitter account for Xbox has confirmed releasing a new patch for third entry in Dark Souls series, which enables FPS Boost feature on Xbox Series X/S consoles using backward compatibility.
Following recent update, players can now run Dark Souls 3 on Xbox Series X/S at a smooth 60 frames per second. Microsoft has introduced FPS Boost in early 2021 to increase frame rates of older titles on new generation of consoles.
Players might still face some small setback on Xbox Series S at times and even on a 4K display, DS3 will only run at 900p. Dark Souls 3 on PlayStation 5 however, can smoothly run at 60 FPS, in 1080p resolution via backward compatibility.
Microsoft initially added FPS Boost feature to Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky's Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4 and Watch Dogs 2 in February. Then they worked on a bunch of games from Bethesda Softworks, Electronic Arts, LEGO and Ubisoft.
Jason Ronald, director of product management at Xbox, has thanked From Software and Bandai Namco for their partnership and support on Twitter, stating that Dark Souls 3 required a brand-new technique to enable 60 FPS on Series X/S.
