It was only weeks ago, when Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier claimed that upcoming God of War: Ragnarök will be delayed, which Sony Interactive Entertainment will reveal soon but there was no official confirmation to back him up.
In a recent social media post, developer Santa Monica Studio has indeed confirmed that highly-anticipated sequel to God of War (2018) has now been moved from its original release window of 2021 and is delayed to 2022 unfortunately.
In a recently published interview, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst revealed that God of War sequel has been pushed from its intended release schedule to next year and provide Santa Monica Studio more time for development.
Sony is currently working on next God of War and Horizon Forbidden West, both are affected by performance capture and talent. Since they started Ragnarök a little bit later, its release has been pushed to deliver a high-quality game.

Due to an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, developments of many AAA-titles are being stalled from last year and Santa Monica only wants to ensure releasing a top-tier game without having any of their developers' welfare at risk.
Revealed during PlayStation 5 Showcase event, an official title is due for long-awaited sequel to God of War 2018 reboot. A brief trailer featuring Kratos talking to his son Atreus premiered and it concluded with a line "Ragnarok is coming".
Hermen Hulst also added that God of War: Ragnarök won't be exclusive to PlayStation 5 and is coming to PlayStation 4 as well. Another notable exclusive to Sony consoles, racing game Gran Turismo 7 is also getting a cross-gen release.
Sony originally teased a number of exclusives on PlayStation 5 reveal event back in June 2020, yet some of them debuted on PS4. However, upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart remains to PS5 as it couldn't run on current-gen consoles.
Sony announcing many of their next-gen titles to be cross-gen recently is a smart move as PS5 shortage is expected to last until 2022 and there are already many PS4 owners worldwide that loves both God of War and Gran Turismo series.
God of War 2018 reboot was an acclaimed title for PlayStation 4, beating games like Red Dead Redemption 2 at The Game Awards 2018 to win "Game of the Year" accolade and is one of the best-selling games on last console generation.
