Elden Ring Gameplay and Release Date Revealed

After a surprise announcement during E3 2019, developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment remained awfully silent regarding any official news on upcoming fantasy action role-playing game Elden Ring for a while.

A reveal was originally set for last year that got cancelled, followed by a leaked footage earlier and Bandai Namco has finally released a long-awaited gameplay trailer for Elden Ring at latest Kickoff livestream for Summer Game Fest 2021.

In opening scene, a narrator talks about return of an individual known only as "The Tarnished". Now that a fabled Golden Order is broken from its heart, he is on a grand quest for Elden Ring and his burning resolve seems quite adamant.

That same storyteller also predicts of a great battle that will eventually kill The Tarnished and anyone who comes in his way. Against a wave of mystical and mythical creatures, he must wield this powerful weapon to become triumphant.

Elden Ring gameplay bears a lot of resemblance to Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In a vast open-world, players will face-off against powerful enemies in melee combat and come up with tactics to win over battles.

From Software's iconic combat system evolves with swords and sorcery along with inclusion of horses for first time. Players will be able to engage with enemies in various different ways that suits their preferred playstyle and strategies.

Elden Ring is an overly hyped project of From Software due a much-anticipated return of Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki as he joins team with creator of HBO fantasy drama TV series Game of Thrones, author George R. R. Martin.

Miyazaki has handcrafted a unique landscape that has a history of blood and fraud by many of its characters. There are castles, dragons, knights and numerous mysteries within this cursed land for any player to explore in a playthrough.

Whether you want to charge into fights or choose stealth to sneak up on enemies is completely up to you. Players can either play solo or join up in a party of up to four players through online multiplayer like games from Dark Souls series.

Miyazaki added many dark fantasy materials that he was not able to do previously and focused more on RPG elements. A bold world full of classic legends and various dramatic characters was build based on legends penned by R.R. Martin.

Aside from giving fans a first-look at gameplay, newest Elden Ring trailer also confirms a release date scheduled for January 21, 2022. Bandai Namco is likely to announce Collector's Edition and post-launch content roadmap on a later date.

Elden Ring is arriving for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in early 2022. For purchasing a copy on last-gen hardware, Bandai Namco will offer free upgrade to PS5 and Series X/S consoles of current generation.
