The Last of Us 2 DLC Reportedly Cancelled |
Despite delays and polarizing fan-reaction, PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game The Last of Us Part II by developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment wins multiple accolades and sold millions of copies.
Shortly after launch, there were strong hints of Naughty Dog working on a DLC and multiplayer component for TLoU2. However, a recent report from an industry insider claims that The Last of Us 2 DLC is no longer happening anytime soon.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier has showed up on MinnMax Show lately to talk about his report on Sony earlier. Schreier believes that Naughty Dog initially had plans for The Last of Us 2 DLC but they are not working on it anymore.
He is not sure how far they progresses in terms of development of a DLC or if they even started at all. However, Schreier didn't completely rule out any possibility for Naughty Dog of making a change to their resolution and start over again.
Roughly a year after launching The Last of Us, a standalone Left Behind DLC expansion pack was released that featured series protagonist Ellie and her friend Riley, leading to a series of events that reveals Ellie's immunity to Cordyceps virus.
Naughty Dog is allegedly developing a The Last of Us Remake for PlayStation 5, according to a latest Bloomberg report by Schreier. He also stated that an untitled Uncharted game was also in works at one point, which got shelved eventually.
News of The Last of Us Part II DLC cancellation will be a huge letdown to fan community as they were expecting more content and an opportunity to further explore TLoU universe with Joel's brother Tommy Miller in his quest for vengeance.
For now, Naughty Dog seemingly has no intention of expanding The Last of Us Part II narrative by releasing a follow-up DLC right now. There are still chances for players to get a multiplayer component for TLoU2 in foreseeable future though.
