In a few days, upcoming stealth action-adventure game Hitman III from developer/publisher IO Interactive is all set to release on January 20, 2021, wrapping up World of Assassination trilogy of a newly rebooted saga that started in 2016.
Despite promising fans to allow importing maps and unlockables from previous Hitman games, players on PC couldn't transfer progress and they need to re-purchase Hitman 2 again from Epic Games Store to import all location to Hitman 3.
IO Interactive originally advertised adding a feature to import levels from Hitman and Hitman 2 back in August 2020. Only a few days before launch, IOI released a pre-launch guide on official website, detailing Hitman 3 access pass system.
Previously, players could import Hitman in-game progress and locations to Hitman 2, which was also planned for Hitman III. IOI claimed to have a change of plans at the last moment because of a number of circumstances out of their control.
However, those who bought H3 can either claim Hitman GOTY Access Pass on Epic Store for 10 days following launch. If anyone has managed to grab a free copy of Hitman (2016) giveaway in August 2020 will receive a free upgrade as well.
Hitman 2 Standard Access Pass and Gold Access Pass will soon be on sale at 80% discount after release for 14 days. Those these are steps that IOI is taking to help PC gamers enjoy Hitman 3 at launch, none of it was what they really promised.
IOI has set up both H1 and H2 to serve as Hitman III DLC to carry progression and unlocks them across all versions. Aside from their generic explanation, recent issues are probably caused by a platform shift from Steam to Epic Games Store.
IO Interactive has decided to self publish latest installment of Hitman series after moving away from Square Enix and signed a 12 months timed-exclusivity deal earlier with Epic Games for PC version of Hitman III to have creative freedom.
